Positive Behavior Supports
Having a school wide system for Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) is a great way to get all students and teachers on the same page for behavior. Students are often only recognized for their poor behaviors, so ensuring that students are being recognized for positive behaviors is very important for their success in the classroom along with their social skills development. Students who are unable to succeed at a tier one level (generalized supports that allow all students to positively succeed), they may work on developing a behavior plan or assessment in order to ensure that the teachers are allowing each child to learn effectively.
One way that this can be carried out is by having a positive behavior reward system. Students may get tokens or tickets to enter into the "fishbowl" for doing good deeds, positive behavior, or just having a good attitude and focus for the day. By using this sort of system, educators are able to "call students out" in a positive manner, and allow students to feel valued and accepted in the classroom and school building.
